There are three different ways to manually save your progress in No Man’s Sky.

1. No Man’s Sky Portable Save Point
You can craft a Portable Save Point and use it to manually save your game. Once you’re done saving, you can pick it up and put it inside your inventory until you need to use it for the next time.
There are no limits on how many times you can use it, so keeping it with you is always a good idea if you don’t have the time to go back to your ship and want to save your progress instantly.
You can compare this method to quicksaving, which is often found in role-playing video games.
2. No Man’s Sky Beacon Save Point
You can activate a Beacon at any planetary structure, which includes things like monoliths and ancient ruins too. There’s a Beacon spot in those places and you simply have to find it, activate it, and save your game.
It’s not as convenient as the Portable Save Point, but on the plus side, you neither have to craft it nor give up an inventory spot to it.
You can find them and save them without needing to go back to your ship – so it’s a great option if you’re not someone who travels back to their ship often.
3. No Man’s Sky Exiting Your Starship
This one’s less of an official method and more of a workaround that’s very easy and requires no extra effort. The game autosaves every time you exit or enter your ship, so you can use this to your advantage to manually save the game at any point.
You’d need to be close to your ship for this, but the Beacon save point is also found at specific points so it’s not like every other option is significantly better. So, if you don’t mind going back – this is the third way to manually save the game.
So, if you don’t mind going back and forth on the map, you can use the Starship and the Beacons as a way to save your progress manually.
And if you want to have the option with you at all times, you can use the Portable Save Point any moment that you want as long as you don’t mind giving up an inventory slot.
