Warhammer Vermintide 2 Character Classes

Warhammer Vermintide 2 has five character classes in total, which all come with unique weapons and abilities that are exclusive to them.

They have different types of gameplay styles that appeal to various playstyles that gamers have, so while they are all balanced in general and offer no advantage over the other – players might be able to benefit more from a certain playstyle compared to the other.

Warhammer Vermintide 2 Ranger Veteran Class (Bardin Goreksson)

Warhammer Vermintide 2 Ranger Veteran Class (Bardin Goreksson)

The ranger class of Warhammer Vermintide 2 comes in the face of Bardin Goreksson the dwarf. He’s kind of like a tank in a way but with ranged attacks that are very effective in keeping your enemies at bay. His POV feels a bit lower than other characters due to the height, but his trusty axe and crossbow will keep you on top of the game.

You start with the Ranger Veteran that has the ‘Disengage’ career skill that drops a smoke bomb which will hide you from enemies, while the Passive ability is Survivalist which has special ammo drops, more capacity, and faster reloading.

On level 7 you unlock Ironbreaker, which changes the career skill to Impenetrable which adds more defense and lets you taunt enemies.

The Passive ability is Gromril Armour, which absorbs enemy hits, takes less damage, increases stamina, and stun resistance.

And lastly, you unlock Slayer at level 12 which has Leap as the career skill which does exactly what it says. And the Passive ability is Trophy Hunter, which adds a damage buff and increases attack speed.

Warhammer Vermintide 2 Mercenary Class (Markus Kruber)

Markus is basically the perfect knight, which makes him the balanced choice in terms of damage and mobility. The mercenary class has a career skill called Morale Boost which allows him to provide health to nearby teammates and stuns enemies for a short time – which gives it support properties.

The Passive ability is Paced Strikes, which allows the character to hit 3 enemies in a single swing that also has a 10% attack speed increase for 6 seconds. And the critical strike chance is higher than usual too.

On level 7, you unlock Huntsman which gives more long-ranged options and better armor for defense and flexibility.

The career skill is Hunter’s Prowl which allows him to disappear for a short period of time, while the Passive ability is called Waste Not, Want Not and it gives ammunition recovery for ranged headshots and the critical strike chances increase even further.

On level 12, we have the Foot Knight which gives the character bigger gear and a shield – which allows him to be the perfect balance between offense and defense.

The career skill is Valiant Charge which allows him to charge forward and attack enemies fast. While the Passive ability is called Protective Presence, which gives a damage resistance aura and increases stamina.

Warhammer Vermintide 2 Witch Hunter Captain Class (Victor Saltzpyre)

Warhammer Vermintide 2 Witch Hunter Captain Class (Victor Saltzpyre)

The Witch Hunter Captain is for the character Victor Saltzpyre, and it allows him to dual-wield his weapons. He’s a bit more strategic than some of the tank-type characters, as he tags his enemies and takes them out with speedy attacks.

The career skill is called Animosity which boosts the critical hit chance for every party member around him, while the Passive ability is called Witch-Hunt and provides extra damage to tagged enemies, takes away the light attack block cost and critical hits headshots slay regular-sized enemies immediately.

On level 7 you unlock Bounty Hunter which gives better armor and buffs the pistols in attack power, armor-piercing, and distance.

The career skill is called Locked and Loaded and allows the gunshots to pierce through enemies. The Passive ability is called Blessed Shots, which provides a guaranteed ranged critical hit for 8 seconds, bigger ammunition capacity, and faster-reloading speed.

Finally, on level 12, you unlock Zealot which has a career skill called Holy Fervor which allows you to charge forward and gain 50% increased attack speed for a few seconds.

The passive ability is called Fiery Faith and increases your character’s power by 5% for every 25 health that is missing. The heavy attacks become interruptible and lethal damage can allow you to skip death at times.

Warhammer Vermintide 2 Waystalker Class (Kerillian)

Warhammer Vermintide 2 Waystalker Class (Kerillian)

Every good game with role-playing elements that is set in the old ages needs a good Elf character, and that’s what brings us to the Waystalker Class. This class is focused on stealth, strategy, and an assassin-based approach to gameplay.

The career skill for the Waystalker Class is called Trueshot Volley, which allows her to fire a trueflight volley that finds enemies on her path.

The passive ability is called Amaranthe, which allows her to regenerate health automatically, give her extra ammunition capacity, the ranged damage drop off is removed, and her ranged weapon gets zoom. Since she makes use of bow and arrows as a truly ranged character, these things benefit her greatly.

On level 7, you unlock Handmaiden which is more of a melee-based alternative and it sees Kerillian use spears to fight.

The career skill is called Dash, which does exactly what the name says. The Passive ability is The Dance of Seasons, which increases dodge distance, improves stamina regeneration, and has an uninterruptible revive – the last part being a game-changer for a melee character.

Lastly, you unlock Shade at level 12. This gives her daggers and allows her to act as an assassin from the shadows. The career skill is Infiltrate which makes her undetectable and lets her pass through enemies for 10 seconds (can be canceled by attacking manually).

The Passive ability is called Murderous Prowess, which grants her 50% additional damage when attacking enemies from behind and critical hit backstabs that immediately kill regular-sized enemies.

Warhammer Vermintide 2 Battle Wizard Class (Sienna Fuegonasus)

Warhammer Vermintide 2 Battle Wizard Class (Sienna Fuegonasus)

The wizard class is of course an essential part of any game that features character classes and is set in the old times. Sienna is the wizard character of the game and her prominent skill is that of a pyromaniac. You can even combine swords and fire, which is an interesting mix you don’t see very often.

The Battle Wizard class comes with a career skill called Fire Walk, which allows your character to teleport forward and that leaves a blanket of fire in your path.

The Passive skill is Tranquility, which allows her to avoid damage and if you don’t cast any spells for 8 seconds, it ventilates the overcharge. Overcharge increases spell charge speed too, and the ranged damage increases as well.

On level 7, you unlock Pyromancer which gives Sienna fire-based attacks that are great at crowd control.

The career skill is called Homing Firespear, in which she throws a projectile that automatically follows targets. The Passive ability is Critical Mass, which increases the critical strike chances and provides more ranged damage too.

Lastly, we have Unchained which unlocks at level 12 and it combines the Pyromancer abilities with that of a knight – giving us a unique and very appealing class variation for Sienna. The career skill is called Living Bomb in which Sienna heats up and unleashes an explosion that deals damage to all surrounding enemies – and it clears her Overcharge meter too.

The Passive ability is Blood Magic, which transfers 50% of damage taken to Overcharge, removes slowdown from Overcharge, provides increased melee power on high Overcharge, and reduces block cost on high Overcharge.

As you can see, all of them provide some kind of a perk on the Overcharge side of things – which is very helpful for the character and her abilities.

That wraps up every character class in Warhammer Vermintide 2! We hope that you’ve picked what character you wish to play as in your playthrough and while you’re here, make sure to check out some of our other helpful gaming guides too.
