Ever since its release, Elden Ring has been hailed as one of the best games of not just this year, but also the last few decades to say the least. But even the most breathtaking games aren’t flawless. Especially in an age in which almost every game suffers a buggy update or two.
But the issue of Elden Ring’s Walking Mausoleums for the most part isn’t that of bugs and glitches, but of the game’s specificity. Not all Walking Mausoleums are made the same.
To spend hours beating the most rewarding bosses and acquiring their Remembrances, traveling all the way to a Walking Mausoleum and then failing to duplicate the Remembrances of your choice due to the Mausoleum you’re at not listing the Remembrance that you want to duplicate, does indeed sound very frustrating. Especially in a game as difficult and long as Elden Ring.
So, it’s wise to look into how Walking Mausoleums actually work instead of taking the trial-and-error approach and checking all of them out. But before we dive into the functionality of Walking Mausoleums, let us discuss Remembrances and what duplicating them entails.
What are Remembrances In Elden Ring?
Remembrances, also known as “Boss Souls” are consumable items that hold the powers of the bosses they represent.
The player has the ability to either convert them into Runes by consuming them anytime or to hold them and exchange them for one of the two unique reward weapons Finger Reader Enia offers you at her shop in Roundtable hold.
There are 15 total Remembrances, and they’re only dropped by some of the bosses after their defeat.
Most of the bosses that drop Remembrances are a part of the main story, but some optional bosses, especially, in the Lands Between also drop their share of Remembrances.
Why You Should Duplicate Remembrances Wisely
Elden Ring also allows you to duplicate Remembrances by entering Walking Mausoleums as soon as they stop moving and picking a Remembrance to duplicate from the list of viable Remembrances.
A key benefit is that you can now claim both the unique weapons offered by Finger Reader Enia in exchange for the Remembrance.
What complicates things, however, is the fact that while there are 15 total Remembrances, the quantity of Walking Mausoleums is 7, which is less than half the amount of the former, and remember, you can duplicate only one Remembrance per Mausoleum.
In addition to that, the Walking Mausoleums have their own specificities regarding Remembrances too.
This is why it is essential to pick only the best and/or the most suitable Remembrances for duplication. It may take time to get ahold of the Remembrances with the mightiest rewards, but they’d most definitely be worth the patience.
How to Find Working Mausoleums in Elden Ring?
As discussed above, the Walking Mausoleums in Elden Ring mostly aren’t glitching when they don’t list the Remembrance that you want to duplicate. There’s more to these moving, stone-legged buildings. There are eight total Walking Mausoleums in the entirety of Elden Ring, and not all of them can duplicate every possible Remembrance.
These tortoise-like buildings can be entered as soon as they stop moving. It would be silly to attempt entering them while they were active anyway because, with a direct stomp, death is inevitable.
Always make sure of what kind of a Mausoleum you’re entering, and what kinds of Remembrances it may be able to duplicate. Uncommon glitches aside, if the Remembrance you want to duplicate is the kind that the Mausoleum is compatible with, be free of any worries.
There are two main types of Walking Mausoleums, and the functionality of certain Remembrances depends a lot on what type they are. While the Remembrances of non-shard-bearing bosses can be duplicated in both of the Walking Mausoleum types, you might have to be careful when it comes to Remembrances of the major bosses.
The Two Types of Walking Mausoleums:
There are only two Walking Mausoleums of this type, and if you’re reading this, you most likely did end up inside one of them.
Mausoleums Without Bells:
These Mausoleums can only duplicate Remembrances of the non-shard-bearing bosses. So, if you’re wanting to duplicate the Remembrance of a major (Demigod type) boss, you might not want to enter either of these two Mausoleums.
But if you’re replicating non-shard-bearing bosses’ remembrances, don’t hesitate from heading toward any nearest Mausoleums.
Walking Mausoleums without bells can duplicate Remembrances of the following bosses: Regal Ancestor Spirit, Astel Naturalborn of the Void, Lichdragon Fortissax, Fire Giant, Maliketh, the Black Blade, Dragonlord Placidusax, Hoarah Loux, Warrior and Elden Beast.
Where to find the two Walking Mausoleums without hanging bells in Elden Ring:
- Liurnia of the Lakes – North of the Mausoleum Compound Grace near Uld Palace Ruins, north of the Church of Vows.
- Liurnia of the Lakes – North of the Ruined Labyrinth Grace or, due south of the Mausoleum Compound Grace in Eastern Liurnia, north of the Church of Vows.
Mausoleums With Bells:
However, when it comes to Remembrances of Demigod-type bosses like Malenia and Morgott, you might want to look for Walking Mausoleums that have a bell hanging between their legs.
There are five Mausoleums with bells, and each one of them can duplicate every Remembrance. You’d specifically have to use these only when you’re wanting to duplicate a Demigod-type boss’ Remembrance.
But if not, you needn’t look for a bell or the lack thereof in a Mausoleum.
Walking Mausoleums with bells can duplicate Remembrances of the following bosses:
Godrick the Grafted, Rennala Queen of the Full Moon, Starscourge Radahn, Regal Ancestor Spirit, Astel Naturalborn of the Void, Rykard Lord of Blasphemy, Morgott the Omen King, Malenia Blade of Miquella, Mohg Lord of Blood, Lichdragon Fortissax, Fire Giant, Dragonlord Placidusax, Maliketh, the Black Blade, Hoarah Loux, Warrior, and Elden Beast.
Where to find Walking Mausoleums with hanging bells in Elden Ring:
- Weeping Peninsula – in the western area, east of Isolated Merchant’s Shack.
- Liurnia of the Lakes – to the northeast of Raya Lucaria, in the waters in front of Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel Grace.
- Mountaintop of the Giants – right outside Castle Sol in the northern area of the map.
- Consecrated Snowfield – to the northwest of Ordina, next to the Apostate Derelict Grace.
- Deeproot Depths – North of The Nameless Eternal City Grace.
What to Do If Mausoleums Still Don’t Work?
In rare cases, the Remembrance of your choice may not show in a Mausoleum’s duplication menu due to a currently ongoing glitch.
So, if you do not see the Remembrance that you want to duplicate in the duplication list of even a compatible Mausoleum, try going away and returning to the Mausoleum after some time. It is likely that we’ll soon have a patch for fixing this glitch, but for the time being, it should go away via returning to the Mausoleum(s) at different times.
