Elden Ring Godskin Apostle (Complete Guide)

Elden Ring Godskin Apostle (Complete Guide)

So, you wanna grind in side quests and boost your levels and inventory to aid your Elden Ring playthrough? Chances are, a Godskin Apostle may crush your dreams eventually. Even if you’re more of the main story gamer, a Godskin Apostle duo awaits you. But don’t panic, this guide has your back.

Elden Ring’s Main story is long enough already, so playing through side quests and optional bosses may elongate your journey further. But a game so detailed would not simply sideline its optional content.

Like other Soulsborne games, Elden Ring is a very challenging game and compels you to engage in more side quests for upgrading your levels, gear, and skills. In fact, if you grind in the game accordingly to your levels, you can finish the game without any trouble.

But that would require active participation in a good deal of side quests and battling optional bosses and enemies, and in Elden Ring, even side content is something to sweat over.

However, with meticulousness and leveling up accordingly to the boss battles, you’ll barely meet any obstacles.

Bosses In Elden Ring

There are several different kinds of optional bosses in the vast world of Elden Ring, and very specific approaches are required to defeat each type.

The recurring Godskin Apostle is also a type of in-game boss. While the player does draw swords with a Godskin Apostle boss in the main story (in Crumbling Farum Azula), all the other Godskin Apostle incarnations are optional bosses.

They may not progress the story, but still aid the player with leveling up, and provide runes and other useful items.

But being optional doesn’t make battling these recurring Godskin Apostles any less of a hassle. The Godskin Apostle is one of the hardest enemies to dodge in the entire game. Against such a boss, you must watch your every move, which is why it’s essential to do your homework before engaging one.

What Type of a Boss is Godskin Apostle?

What Type of a Boss is Godskin Apostle?

The Godskin Apostle is a Great Enemy-class boss, which alone says a lot about how intense it would be to fight one. It’s one of the bosses in the game that can be battled using multiplayer too.

The ability to use Spirit Summons also aids the player a lot. And they also reward a bunch of useful items and about 14,000 runes!

The fact that it’s even possible to beat the Godskin Apostles has a lot to do with them being nerfed in the narrative itself. They’re said to have been servants of Destined Death and wield the god-slaying black flame.

But thanks to Malekith, the source of their power got sealed away.

Where to Find Each Godskin Apostle?

Here’s where to find the four Godskin apostles in Elden Ring.

1. Altus Plateau

Can be found through Windmill Village by traveling Northeast. He’ll await you near a windmill after you ascend your way to the top. Millicent can also be summoned while battling this incarnation of Godskin Apostle. The stake of Marika can be found right around the boss’ location.

2. Caelid

Located in the basement of the Divine Tower of Caelid. The tower may require cunning platforming though.

3. Mountaintops of the Giants

Is found inside the Spiritcaller’s cave. The player fights him in a spectral form in a gauntlet boss battle with a Godskin Noble. The player fights the Apostle before the Noble, but the battle counts them both as a single boss and rewards only once.

4. Crumbling Farum Azula

This is an inevitable boss battle, in which you encounter both Godskin Apostle and Godskin Noble at once, thus the boss fight being titled Godskin Duo. You can summon Recusant Bernahl in this battle.

Godskin Apostle’s Weaknesses and Strengths

Godskin Apostle’s Weaknesses and Strengths

Before we get into a thorough guide on beating Godskin Apostle, his strengths and weaknesses need to be made clear, so that even if you don’t want to internalize a step-by-step guide against him, you still go back with a few important takeaways.

Godskin Apostle is extremely prone to Bleed damage. This is why we’d recommend you to equip a weapon that deals Bleed damage on every single hit. You should also prioritize a weapon that’s either agile or covers a fair range.

Since he moves quickly, the strategy should be to either rely on a long-range weapon or to back away as soon as you hit him with a close-quarter weapon.

We also strongly recommend using summons, especially Ash summons due to their ability to spawn multiple allies or strong summons that bring allies like Knight Oleg and the Jellyfish to your aid. With the right gear and strategy, you can beat him without any assistance too, but since we’re talking about a Soulsborne game, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

His most notorious attack is Black Flame, in which he raises his left hand and shoots his target with a large, black fireball.

This is a very fast attack and deals serious damage. When it hits its target, it continues to deal damage for a few seconds. Despite the attack being one of the scariest ones in the entire game, countering it is no big deal.

All you need to do is either dodge sideways or towards the fireball.

Another major attack is the Jumping Overhead Slash, which can also be seen as a weakness for him because if missed, it allows you at least two hits.

As he jumps upwards and is about to charge down with his sword, dodge behind him or sideways, and attempt as many quick strikes as you can.

The Spinning Weapon is yet another strong attack that can be used against him.

He charges toward you while spinning his weapon, which upon contact costs its victim a lot of HP. The best way to counter this move is to sprint as far from him as possible. But if you’re too close to him during this attack, circle around his back.

Due to this attack, those with builds that are heavy on melee or magic may find this battle much easier because they can simply target him with ranged attacks. The fact that this attack can never be interrupted makes it quite advantageous.

Black Flame Whirlwind is an attack to back away from too.

As soon as he starts twirling his sword above him, back away from him, and be careful of the whirlwind’s edge since it could surprise you with a final burst if you’re too close.

How to Beat Godskin Apostle (Step by Step)

Here’s the step-by-step guide to beating the Godskin Apostles in Elden Ring.

Phase One

How to Beat Godskin Apostle (Step by Step)

In the first phase, he mostly relies on fast and hard close-quarter attacks with the sickle side of his twinblade. While rolling through them is not difficult at all, you might meet some consequences for rolling too soon.

If you summon the Jellyfish, the Godskin Apostle will be prone to more attacks during this phase due to the Jellyfish luring the boss towards itself. Whenever the boss is distracted, hit him on the back with a jumping attack.

With several successful jumping attacks or any attacks when you’re fighting alongside a summoned ally, he’d be at the other end of serious Bleed damage. And even if you don’t use summons, you could always achieve that by hit-and-run tactics.

Soon enough, he starts using ranged attacks and spells. A rune shows up when he uses certain spells, and it’s advised to be on high alert after its appearance. Do not heal after the rune’s appearance.

Phase Two

As soon as you manage to strike down half of his health, he’ll unleash a blast of black energy and elongate its upper body towards you. He may go berserk and look scarier, but he’s even easier to punish in this phase due to his decreased reliance on his bottom half. You only need to safely reach his legs.

Don’t punish too long though, or you’ll be punished by his spinning AOE attack in return. Also beware when he hits you with his scythe after stretching himself, as that’d be followed by another strong attack after he moves his lower body towards you.

You’ll have to dodge the roll throughout the final attack.

The strategy should be to target his lower body and then dash back towards the end opposite to where his head is spinning.

We hope this guide is helpful enough for you to ace through all four of the Godskin Apostle boss battles. Make sure to check out our other Elden Ring guides too!
