Counter-Strike: Global Offensive may have come out almost a decade ago, but it continues to be an extremely relevant video game that is loved both by the casual first-person shooter community and those who are competitive.
With a million concurrent players very often, it’s no surprise that the game has a very active esports scene and is inspiring new games even today, such as Valorant.
While the game is primarily known to be a PC title, a little fun fact is that CSGO was released on consoles too – and it’s also compatible on Steam for the Macintosh and Linux platforms. Naturally, a game this popular is still played on all of these different platforms even today – so it begs the question of whether CS:GO has cross-platform multiplayer or not.
After all, no one in 2022 wants to specifically buy hardware just to be able to play the game with their friends. Instead, they want the convenience of matching up with their friends in online games irrespective of what platform everyone is on.

Counter Strike: Global Offensive Cross-Play Explained
As usual, before we answer the million-dollar question – let’s take a moment to explain what cross-platform and other cross functionalities mean for those who might not be aware. If you already know, you can skip to the next segment for your answer to the main question!
There are three cross functionalities in video games that exist at the time. The first and most common one is cross-play which refers to the ability to play online multiplayer with your friends regardless of what platform you are all on.
For example, someone on a PlayStation 4 should be able to play with their friend who is on an Xbox One, or a PC – as long as they are on the same version of the game.
The second type is called cross-progression, which refers to the ability to have the same progress in a game on multiple platforms. For example, if you reached level 40 on a game on your PC, you should be able to have the same progress carried over on the PlayStation 4 instead of having to start your game over from level 1.
The third and last type of cross-function is cross-generation multiplayer, which refers to the ability to play a game with your friends across different consoles under the same brand. For example, someone on a PlayStation 4 should be able to play the game with a friend on a PlayStation 5.
The same goes for Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X, and so on.

Is Counter Strike: Global Offensive Cross-Play?
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, macOS, and Linux platforms.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has limited cross-play, which means that PC players that use Microsoft Windows can play online multiplayer with those who are using Steam on the Mac OS and Linux operating systems.
Unfortunately, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive does not have cross-play multiplayer between PC and Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.
Every platform can only play the game with each other because Valve gave up on supporting the console versions of the game due to the fact that the game suits the PC platform the best – and they’re clearly not short of players either.
CS:GO also does not have cross-generation multiplayer or cross-progression of any sort, making the console ports essentially obsolete.
Is Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Cross-Platform Between PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac?
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive does not have cross-play between PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. CSGO does have cross-platform multiplayer between PC and Mac, as well as Linux too.
Is Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One?
Counter Strike: Global Offensive is not released on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. It was last released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 only. It could be played on the Xbox One when the game was still on the Xbox store, but that is something that has changed by now.
Is Counter-Strike: Global Offensive coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X & S?
Valve currently has no plans of releasing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X & S.
