Elden Ring is one of the most anticipated games of this year and it has had a phenomenal launch that overtook the sales chart in every country as soon as it was released.
Once players and critics got to play the game, it was quickly referred to as one of the best games of this generation. On top of that, it’s also being considered one of the best Souls games – which is a great title to have since they have such a devoted fanbase.
It’s bigger than ever and players can explore everything that their eyes can see. The enemies are diverse, the bosses are back-breakingly difficult, and it’s a full-fledged RPG with many different classes and gear.
Unfortunately, the PC launch of the game leaves much to be desired. While it works fine for a few people, the majority of gamers have experienced many issues even on high-end computers.
There are issues with Elden Ring’s framerate and rendering, which causes stutter, freezing, and crashes. Then we have network issues too that make it difficult for players to play co-op and PvP multiplayer. And invisible enemies. Really.
And recently, there’s even an Elden Ring Steam save file issue that is making people lose their progress. And all of this is despite the fact that the developers have released a few patches already.
Fortunately, some of Elden Ring’s issues are fixed and we have a few ways that we’ll recommend to you. Once you try these fixes, Elden Ring will run much better on your PC than it did before! So, let’s get started.
How to fix Elden Ring PC Issues
Elden Ring has many PC issues that can make it hard to play the game. We’ll suggest a way to fix every Elden Ring problem separately so that you can focus on only what you need.
This way, your time won’t be wasted trying general solutions that solve problems that you aren’t facing. These fixes might work for you, but there’s no guarantee involved.
If these methods don’t solve your problem, then the only thing that you can do is to wait for official Elden Ring patches that might fix these issues.
How to fix Elden Ring Steam Save Issue
Elden Ring sometimes fails to sync save files with the cloud version of the game. This causes the cloud version of your saves to overwrite the local ones, and you lose all of your progress.
Bandai Namco has officially acknowledged this problem and at the moment, they have not offered a patch that stops this from happening. Instead, they offered the only fix that a person can use – which is to make sure that you select the saved data that comes from a later time compared to the first one.
As you can see in that screenshot, Steam lets you know when both the cloud and local saves were created. So, simply go with the newer one. If you accidentally choose the older one, you’ll lose hours of your time.
If you don’t mind putting in extra effort, you can also manually back up your local save files elsewhere every time you make a lot of progress. You can find it here:
C:\Users\[yourusername]\AppData\Roaming\EldenRing
Just change ‘yourusername’ to your PC’s name.
There has been a fix included in the latest Steam update too, so try to keep your Steam up-to-date when you play the game.
How to fix Elden Ring invisible enemy glitch
This is a very odd issue that players are facing in Elden Ring. Many enemies and bosses simply become invisible and it’s impossible to kill them. This is the type of issue that only an official patch can fix, so for the time being, there isn’t much to try.
One of the things that worked for people were upgrading their GPU drivers, which we already recommended earlier in the article.
The other thing that seemed to work for some players was verifying the game’s files, so let’s jump to how you can do that.
Verify Elden Ring file integrity
1. Find Elden Ring in your Steam directory and open its properties
2. Navigate to ‘Local Files’ and then click on ‘Verify integrity of game files’
The rest of the process is automated. Once it’s completed, try launching the game and see if the issue is solved for you.
How to fix Elden Ring controller not working
This is an issue that a few players faced and Bandai Namco has officially released a patch to fix this problem.
But if you’re still facing issues, you should try not to alt+tab out of the game (or minimize it through any other way) as that seems to trigger the problem for many people. Alternatively, try not to use any third-party controller clients that make your gamepad appear as a different brand to your computer.
So, try not to tab out of the game and try to avoid using third-party gamepad software until the official patches fix the issue for you.
How to Refund Elden Ring
If nothing solves the problem for you, then, unfortunately, the only thing to do is to refund the game. On Steam, you can refund the game if you only played it for 2 hours and under 14 days.
And for physical discs, you can try to refund them to the store from which you purchased them.
We do hope that this guide solves all of your Elden Ring problems and it’s worth mentioning that Bandai Namco is actively trying to fix all of these problems one by one. And fans too are trying to make patches that can make the game more playable, so it might be worth waiting it out and not refunding the game.
You can get a refund by simply heading over to Steam Support and clicking on ‘Purchases’.
Then, click on the Elden Ring from the list of your purchases and click on the ‘Refund’ option. Then, state your reason and wait for Steam to contact you.
How to fix Elden Ring freezing and crashing issues
Many users have reported this issue with Elden Ring even when their high-end PCs have what it takes to run the game, we’ve figured out that some simple tweaks work to help fix it.
