Destiny 2 is filled with many unique weapons that are rarer than everything else that you can find. And some of them are locked behind secret requirements and quests, which makes it difficult to know how to unlock them on your own.
In the secret quest called ‘The Whisper’, you can unlock an exotic weapon called the ‘Whisper of the Worm’ which cannot be obtained through any other means in the game. And given the fact that it’s one of the most useful weapons in the game, you wouldn’t want to miss your shot at getting it!
So, how do you find and complete the Destiny 2 Whisper quest and eventually unlock the Whisper of the Worm exotic weapon along the way? To save your precious time, we’ve created a thorough yet quick guide of how you can find and complete the quest to unlock the exotic weapon!

Destiny 2 Whisper Guide
The first step in unlocking the Whisper of the Worm in Destiny 2 is to get to the Whisper secret quest in the game.
1. Preparation Phase
A very important thing you need to understand here is that you need a really good team that knows how to handle large groups of enemies and precise platforming. Because the mission is very challenging and puts both your platforming and your shooting capabilities to the test.
This also means that you should already set up a good loadout for everything that will go down in the mission. For example, you will need very precise platforming jumping – which means you should equip things that assist with traversal and range.
Additionally, you will be fighting many powerful enemies of high levels and you don’t want to go underprepared as dying in the quest will mean you have to put in all of the efforts once more.
And one last thing that you need to keep in mind is that the mission has a 20-minute timer. So, not only do you have to traverse so precisely and take on very high-level enemies which later lead onto the bosses – but you also need to do it all in a very fast time. So, there’s no easy way to complete this mission and you undoubtedly have to be on your A-game.
2. The Whisper Mission Guide
First of all, you need to head to the Io, which is in the Lost Oasis area. There, you need to activate the Taken Blight Public Event and you have to ignore the objectives that are given to you by the mission.
From here on, you need to go to the Northwest side of the Lost Oasis area – which should take you straight up to the Lost Sector. Then you need to ignore the objectives because unlocking the Whisper of the Worm is a secret quest within the event.
Look for the Taken Champion boss in the Lost Sector and you’ll have to defeat it. Afterward, you can find a portal on the higher part of the surface and your Fireteam leader can activate it which can be used by everyone in the team if they are close enough.
Once you go inside the portal, you will finally unlock The Whisper secret mission in Destiny 2 and completing it will be your journey into obtaining the Whisper of the Worm exotic sniper rifle.
Destiny 2 Whisper of the Worm Unlocking Guide
Once you’ve entered the portal, a 20-minute timer will begin in which you have to complete the secret Whisper quest. You have to make your way through the cavern area that you find yourself in, and you have to make sure that you’re precise in your movement in the platform sections specifically.
You will encounter different types of platforms, traps, and obstacles along your way which try to throw you off. You will finally reach an area with teleportation spheres and you need to enter the one that is on the right side towards the back.
Then keep going onwards until you find a large cracked wall, and then your goal is to jump inside of it. Once in, you have to go forward again until you run into the combat section.
But be careful, a lot of the path is narrow and at the sides and sometimes hard to spot – so make sure not to miss anything.
Some rocks will push you to the side but while in the dark they might seem random – you can spot them before you run into them.
That is done by looking below on the ledges; a dark/broken spot means the rocks will come out there. Simply pass it by quickly or wait for the rock to come and leave based on your positioning.
And don’t shy away from jumping off of dead ends, as some of the spots require you to double jump right after jumping off a ledge to reach a higher point. One way or another, you can expect some trial and error along the way.
Of course, the goal here is to kill everything in your sight – but you will learn that the Blights are not worth the time or effort. So, simply kill the Taken and leave the Blights and run away. There will be more sections full of platforms, enemies, and cracks – keep going until you finally drop down into a huge opening in the ground.
Then you’ll encounter more enemies full of Taken and Blights. This time you can’t run away, so kill everyone with your team efficiently and make sure not to die.
Bosses will start coming in and you will have to kill all of them. Once you kill the final boss, you will finally unlock the Whisper of the Worm Exotic in Destiny 2!
How good is the Whisper of the Worm in Destiny 2?
Destiny 1 had a very powerful weapon called the Black Spindle. In Destiny 2, the Whisper of the Worm is essentially an exotic sniper rifle that is a reskin of the Black Spindle, and much like the original, this weapon is one of the best rifles that you can use in the game. So, you can put two and two together and get an idea of how powerful this weapon really is.
To make things even better, it has the White Nail perk which increases the precision of your damage and comes with a 385-damage rating – which is top of the line for the game. It’s a must-have weapon through and through for any long-time player of the game.
And of course, it’s a delight for fans of the original game to see such an important weapon return, which is both a throwback to what allowed Destiny 2 to exist and something to revisit from the original game which made it fun.
