Being one of the most successful video games in history (and one of the most financially abundant forms of media for that matter), Grand Theft Auto V is a digital behemoth that has grown to an almost incomprehensible size.

This has been significantly added to by its online counterpart (GTA Online) becoming its own entity that has only been expanding in size with countless updates that have settled that formerly choppy waters the flagship IP was sailing in upon the game’s online unveiling.

With the sheer amount of content added to it, it’s easy to get lost in the swarthy forest of everything contained with the two modes. And with the record-breaking game apparently being prepped to find a new home on PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X later this year, we thought we’d provide a few refresher courses on various aspects of the game.

Sticky Bombs are a fancier way to cause not-so spontaneous combustion, and a great way to lay a deadly trap for NPCs and other online players alike. First appearing in the GTA IV expansion, The Ballad of Gay Tony, these adhesive explosives reappeared in GTA V and GTA Online.

Where to Find Them

Sticky Bombs are given to the different characters in different missions. Franklin receives five of them during the mission “Blitz Play”, and five are given to Michael in the “Derailed” mission. Each of these can be retained should the player not expend all of them during the missions in which they are given.

After the mission “Derailed” is completed, they become available at Ammu-nation for $400 per bomb.

They also spawn in three locations in the world: in Banning, underwater underneath the bridge, on the second floor of the incomplete building in Vespucci Canals between Vespucci Boulevard and Prosperity Street, and at the crash site of the Merryweather plane after the mission “Minor Turbulence” has been completed, north of Stab City.

In GTA Online, they are unlocked for purchase at Ammu-nation at Rank 19 for $600 per bomb.

Using Sticky Bombs

Sticky Bombs are in the thrown weapons category on the weapon wheel. They can be thrown by holding LT (Xbox) or L2 (PS) and pressing RT (Xbox) or R2 (PS). Alternatively they can be set on the floor or on a surface/vehicle by pressing RT/R2 without holding LT/L2. Once set, they cannot be picked back up.

A maximum of 20 Sticky Bombs can be set in story mode, and 5 in Online. Planting a 21st or 6th bomb will overwrite the 1st bomb that was placed.

Once planted, press left on the D-pad to detonate all placed bombs (Sticky Bombs don’t have to be the selected weapon in order to detonate them). Bombs can also be detonated individually by shooting them.
