How to Complete Ranni’s Quest in Elden Ring (Guide)

How to Complete Ranni’s Quest in Elden Ring

Ranni the Witch is one of the most important characters in Elden Ring. She gives the player a questline which lasts a couple of hours and includes a lot of additional lore for the player to learn.

Although this quest is referred to as a ‘side quest’ by many, it’s more of an alternate path in the game. Since Elden Ring is not a linear game, it’s hard to call something a parallel quest since you don’t simply get to choose paths.

But given the fact that Ranni’s quest can give you an alternate ending, it’s truly more of a diverging point in the story should the player wish to pursue this route.

So, where do you find Ranni’s quest, how do you complete it, and what’s the reward? Let’s take a look at our complete guide of Ranni’s Quest in Elden Ring and find out!

Where is Ranni’s quest in Elden Ring?

Where is Ranni’s quest in Elden Ring

You can find Ranni for the first time when you collect your Spectral Steed and head over to the Church of Elleh in Limgrave. She calls herself Renna at this point and you will receive two items from her, which are the Spirit Calling Bell and the Lone Wolf Ashes.

You won’t meet her again for some time until you go to the Caria Manor and fight the Royal Knight Loretta boss. Once you’ve won, you can go to a plateau known as the ‘Three Sisters’ and that’s where you need to go to meet Ranni again.

‘The Three Sisters’ are essentially three wizard towers called Renna’s Rise, Ranni’s Rise, and Seluvi’s rise. Head over to Ranni’s Rise (the middle tower) and you can begin Ranni’s questline.

Once you initiate dialogue with Ranni in Ranni’s Rise, you can reach a point where she asks you to commit to her service. Agree to that and she’ll give you a few tasks that you have to complete.

The first of those tasks that she mentions is related to speaking to three NPCs in the game, who are Preceptor Seluvis, War Counselor Iji, and Blaidd. Although you can meet Blaidd and Counselor Iji before accepting this quest, it’s not a mandatory task.

When you’re ready to leave this place and wish to embark on your journey, you can talk to the spectral forms of these people on the main floor of Ranni’s Rise and then come back to Ranni.

Task 1: Talk to Blaidd about Nokron

The first part of your quest is to visit Nokron – which is quite a long journey.

Start it off by heading over to the Siofra River which is located through the Siofra River Well in the Mistwoods of East Limgrave. Inside, you’ll find Blaidd around the underground region.

Once you talk to him, he’ll explain to you that he can see Nokron but does not know how to reach it. Blaidd will then suggest that you should talk to Seluvis, and that sets you off to your second task.

Task 2: Talk to Seluvis about Nokron

You have to go back to the area with the Three Sisters again. Go to the Seluvis’ Rise tower and speak to Seluvis there. He will give you some information and tell you that Sellen might know more.

He also gives you an introduction letter for the Sorceress Sellen so that she speaks to you.

You can find Sellen in Limgrave, inside the Waypoint Ruins which is on the Far East of the starting point of the game. You’ll encounter the Mad Pumpkin Head along the way in the basement and then you can meet her and give her the letter.

At this point, Sellen will tell you to kill the Starscourge Radahn boss as he is the key to unlocking Nokron since he holds the stars.

After this, go back to Blaidd and talk to him. He tells you that he’ll help you fight Radahn and that he’ll meet you at Redmane Castle – where the boss can be fought.

Head over to the Redmane Castle, which can be teleported to by using the Impassable Greatbridge Site of Grace. This specific site of grace can be found in the southernmost part of Caelid.

Task 3: Defeat Starscourge Radahn

Once you enter this area, you’ll see a bunch of different NPCs which includes Blaidd. Go upstairs and you can talk to an announcer who you can speak to. Tell him that you’re ‘Ready as ever’ and he will give you some backstory about Radahn and let you enter the door to the boss fight.

Defeat Starscourge Radahn

Once you’re done talking, head over to the doors that take you upstairs and take the one directly behind a chair that you’ll see. Then head over to the right side that has a lift for you to take.

Then you’ll see a teleporter that will take you directly to the Radahn boss fight.

You can fight him on your own or use summons to help you along the way. Your strategy is completely dependent on you and your playstyle. Keep in mind that it’s a good idea to use attacks with Scarlet Rot against him, and other things like Sorcery and Poison are a good idea too.

And lastly, he has a second phase in which he can summon asteroids to defeat you. Using a horse to go around it is a good idea. Otherwise, stay near the ridge crest area and the hill helps you block the attacks.

Once the boss is beaten, a star falls into Limgrave and that opens a new entrance to Nokron.

This can be located a little to the south of Mistwood Ruins. Visit the Starscourge Radahn Site of Grace and talk to Blaidd. He tells you that he’ll meet you where the star fell.

Explore Nokron, Eternal City

Task 4: Explore Nokron, Eternal City

Even though Blaidd said that he will be waiting for you, you can’t find him there. This is because of an optional side quest in which he’s trapped and you have to help him become free. If you wish to complete this optional quest, you can head over to Forlorn Hound Evergoal to start it.

But let’s focus on Ranni’s quest here and skip going to Forlorn Hound Evergoal for Blaidd.

Head over to the south of Mistwood Ruins and you’ll find a crater that you can enter. You’ll see a rock formation in front of you and from here, you can drop down on the ledges and continue towards a doorway on your left.

Then, follow this path and you’ll eventually reach Nokron, Eternal City.

Explore Nokron, Eternal City

Once you’re exploring the city, you should reach the Nokron, Eternal City Site of Grace, and then head to the southeast side to defeat a Mimic Tear. From here, head up to the Ancestral Woods and find the site of grace in this area.

Jump down to a ledge below this spot towards the southwest. Then go around to the northwest corner and keep going towards this path until you can find a corpse that is hanging off the edge of the ledge.

Keep going forward and jump across a circular-looking roof, which will lead you to two black blobs. You will then fight two Silver Tear enemies. Defeat them and take the path to the lead, drop down, go forward and drop onto a bridge that you’ll see.

Finally, after dropping down to the lowest point, you’ll find a giant stone ball that will roll towards you. You can defeat it and get a Larval Tear.

Once all of this is done, head to the door in front of you, go to the right and find the Site of Grace in this area. Then take the path towards the north and enter the building in front of you.

Inside, you’ll find a chest that holds the ‘Fingerslayer Blade’ that Ranni wants.

Explore Nokron, Eternal City

Task 5: Visit Renna’s Rise

Go back to Ranni’s Rise. Head inside and tell Ranni that you have the Fingerslayer Blade. If you exhaust the dialogue lines, she will give you the Carian Inverted Statue.

This will unlock the Renna’s Rise tower and you have to visit it next.

Inside the tower, climb up the ladder and open a chest that will give you the Snow Witch Hat, Robe, and Skirt. Climb the tower further and you’ll find a teleporter that takes you to Ansel River Main.

Task 6: Complete your duties in Ansel River and Nokstella, Eternal City

Once you arrive at Ansel River Main, you’ll find a corpse holding a Miniature Ranni doll.

Go to the site of grace of this area and there will be an option to talk to the doll. Select the option a few times to make it work.

She’ll tell you to defeat the Baleful Shadows nearby. Go to the Uhl Palace Ruins and then head towards the river past the stairs. Take the first right, enter a door that will open and you will enter Nokstella, Eternal City – a new area.

Complete your duties in Ansel River and Nokstella, Eternal City

When you find the Nokstella Site of Grace, follow the path along the floor rather than the stairs. You’ll find a building towards the south that has a lift.

When you enter the lift, you’ll be able to head to the Nokstella Waterfall Basin Site of Grace. Talk to Ranni here, head towards the eggs, and find the red room.

You’ll fight a Baleful Shadow and defeat it. Then Ranni will thank you and give you the Discarded Palace Key. This key can be used to unlock Rennalla’s locked chest in the Grand Library and you will receive a Dark Moon Ring.

Now, head towards the southeast of the building that you were previously in and take a lift that will send you off to the Lake of Rot.

Task 7: Explore the Lake of Rot

Explore the Lake of Rot

Make your way to the Lake of Rot Shoreline Site of Grace. It’s a good idea to have a bunch of boluses ready to go because you’ll need to eliminate the Rot effect if you’re infected.

Inside the Lake of Rot, make your way to the Grand Cloister. You can notice which parts of the platforms seem safe to explore, so use them to traverse further. You can either fight every enemy in this area or avoid those that you can.

You’ll eventually find the River of Rot in the south of the Grand Cloister. Find a coffin that is placed on top of a waterfall and rest in the coffin.

This will send you off to a new area with a boss fight waiting for you.

Task 8: Defeat Astel, Naturalborn of the Void

Defeat Astel, Naturalborn of the Void

Now, you’ll have to fight this menacing boss. You can fight it in any way that you like based on your preferred playstyle. One recommendation that I have based on my experiences is that you can use Holy and Rot damage against Astel effectively.

Hitting on its head deals the most damage, and using the Halo Scythe paired with the right items can make the fight even shorter.

Once Astel is defeated, you will gain an item called the Remembrance of the Naturalborn. After looking for an exit, you’ll find a gate on the other side of the arena. You can open this with the Dark Moon Ring that you picked up earlier, and inside is an elevator that will take you out of the Ansel River Well.

Then, you’ll reach the Moonlight Alter.

Task 9: Meet Ranni in the Moonlight Alter

This area is filled with a lot to do. You can find some really good loot and even fight high-level dragons. Whether you fight them or find a way to bypass them – you need to enter the large cathedral in the area.

Meet Ranni in the Moonlight Alter

You’ll find a hole in the ground that you can drop down into and then you have to follow the tunnel until you find Ranni. Talk to her and wear the ring when the game asks you to.

Then talk to her once more and she will tell you that she’s leaving for now. And that when the player becomes the Elden Lord, they will rule together.

The player is then free to do as they like, aside from the things that have been locked out by doing this quest. Once the final boss is defeated, the player is to use Ranni’s summon sign. This causes her to appear and triggers the ending that you unlock after completing this quest.

Ranni’s Quest Rewards

Aside from the loot, experience, and Runes that you gain throughout Ranni’s questline which we already mentioned – there are two rewards that matter the most. The first one is the alternate ending that we mentioned already.

The second reward is the Darkmoon Greatsword weapon, which is pretty good to use throughout the rest of the game.

And that’s it for our detailed guide for completing Ranni’s quest in Elden Ring! You have tons of loot, some nice rewards, a new ending to watch, and a fiance… more or less.
