Nvidia’s RTX 4000 Series Price, Specs: Worth It?

rTX 4000 Series Price, Specs

Ever since the RTX 3000 series of Nvidia GPUs was released to the public, people were eagerly waiting for the next generation because it had already been confirmed through rumors.

Another reason behind the wait was the fact that the covid-19 complications made it difficult to purchase the cards and at that point, people felt it’d be better to just buy the new generation instead.

Fortunately, Nvidia has finally revealed their RTX 4000 series of GPUs and given us all of the details that we need to know, such as price, specifications, release dates, and all the currently available models.

With this guide, we will answer every question that you have about the new GPUs. Price, specifications, the difference between the models, and whether it’s worth it to make the purchase.

So, let’s begin with the basics.

UPDATE (17/10/22)

Nvidia has officially canceled the release of the Nvidia RTX 4080 12GB variant that was revealed as part of the 3 graphics cards that we were going to be able to purchase soon.

The reason behind it is exactly what we talked about too, which is that the Nvidia RTX 4080 12GB was a very underpowered card that deserved a lower price than what it got, especially since it’s more comparable to an RTX 3070 than an RTX 4080 16GB.

As for the future, Nvidia implied they will repurpose this GPU. And we have good reason to believe it will simply be released later as the Nvidia RTX 4070 in the near future.

Every Nvidia RTX 4000 GPU Model Revealed

Starting off, let’s take a look at the three models that have been revealed by Nvidia for their RTX 4000 series.

1. Nvidia RTX 4080 12GB

The first and cheapest card in the RTX 4000 series is the Nvidia RTX 4080 12GB.

Though all of the cards have similar technology with the latest Ada Lovelace architecture, there is a noticeable difference in the VRAM of the two 4080 models, with this being the weakest one.

Of course, compared to the 3000 series, this card is equivalent to a 3070 in the best ways and offers a lot of value in terms of power. However, given the fact that its price is much higher, it does become the most questionable purchase of this generation.

2. Nvidia RTX 4080 16GB

This is where things get real. The Nvidia RTX 4080 16GB is a true next-gen GPU that has a great chip and perfectly utilizes the power that the 4000 series has to offer.

It’s natural to expect that the only difference between the 12GB and 16GB models is VRAM, but it’s much more complicated than that – which we’ll explain in more detail below.

But the bottom line is, the 4080 16GB is much more similar to the RTX 4090 than it is with the 12GB counterpart.

3. Nvidia RTX 4090 (24GB)

Nvidia RTX 4090 is the most powerful GPU that the company ever made – and also the most powerful GPU available to consumers in general too with every brand kept in mind.

Not only is it the best use of the RTX technology yet, but it also comes with a whopping 24GB VRAM and has the best technology that the 4000 series has to offer thus far.

It is of course very costly and is one of the only three RTX 4000 GPUs available right now. But it’s very much worth the purchase and will last you many years of use as an investment both in terms of gaming and work.

So, not only is the RTX 4090 24GB the most impressive GPU unveiled in the series, it’s also the most powerful one you can get your hands on right now.

Nvidia RTX 4000 Series Specs

Now that we have the individual information out of the way, let’s get into the most important bit: the specifications of the RTX 4000 graphics cards.

Nvidia RTX 4080 12GB Specs:

Nvidia RTX 4000 Series Specs

The specs of the RTX 4000 series of GPUs are remarkably high and top of the line.

The RTX 4090 has twice the power of the RTX 3090ti, which is a massive jump from what we’ve had for years. Raytracing is now at its peak and new technology was announced too that will use AI to automatically enable RTX in older games.

The architecture of the GPUs is made with both gaming and 3D rendering in mind for things like modeling and editing – so these GPUs are very effective at that task. And of course, DLSS 3.0 is a very attractive feature as well.

Here are the important specs that anyone can understand for an idea of the power of this generation:

Nvidia RTX 4000 GPU Prices

Now, with the specs and models out of the way, you must be wondering what they all cost. Let’s talk business.

What is the price of the Nvidia RTX 4080 12GB?

The price of the Nvidia RTX 4080 12GB is $899 MSRP. It’s approximately $300 dollars cheaper than the 16GB variant, but its power is similar to the RTX 3070 which costs only $500 dollars.

What is the price of the Nvidia RTX 4080 16GB?

The price of the Nvidia RTX 4080 16GB is $1199 MSRP. It’s a significantly better GPU than its 12GB variant and is a great entry card into the 4000 generation that Nvidia recently introduced.

What is the price of the Nvidia RTX 4090?

The price of the Nvidia RTX 4090 is $1599 MSRP. Thanks to its great architecture, technology, and 24GB of VRAM – it’s the most powerful GPU available for consumers in 2022. And of course, a massive improvement over the RTX 4080 16GB.

Is the Nvidia RTX 4000 Series Worth It?

Is the Nvidia RTX 4000 Series Worth It

This is the most important question after you already know what the price and specs of the 4000 series cards are.

Is it worth it to buy a Nvidia RTX 4000 GPU? The answer depends on several factors.

First of all, what GPU do you currently have, if any? If you already have a RTX 2080 or any GPU above the RTX 3060ti from last generation, then it might not be worth it for you to upgrade. The previous generation of GPUs already did a great job at giving us a lot of power and RTX capabilities, so one should only upgrade if really necessary.

Secondly, if you don’t have a GPU already, what’s your budget?

If you’re looking for a card under 800 USD and can only buy the Nvidia RTX 4080 12GB – then you shouldn’t. Every expert of GPUs right now is suggesting that the RTX 4080 12GB is too similar to the Nvidia 3070, which is much cheaper and offers just as much power and effectiveness.

The reason behind this is that the RTX 4080 12GB has less VRAM and an inferior overall architecture in the form of the AD104 chip that makes it worse than the 16GB variant. The other models have AD102 and AD103 chips, which are quite a noticeable upgrade. So, why spend more if you won’t get more?

Thus, you should only really buy RTX 4000 series cards in two cases. One, if you don’t have a GPU already and wish to buy a RTX 4080 16GB – then you should go ahead and do it right away. And two, if you want the strongest GPU available in the market from any brand, then the RTX 4090 24GB is the best purchase you can make right now.

rtx 4000 gpu

Of course, if you’re a big fan of the RTX technology and want the new DLSS 3.0 software – then you need to get the 4000 series GPUs to truly experience the best of both worlds.

So, with all of this information, you can make the right choice for both your wallet and computer. But in any case, we recommend against buying a 4080 12GB card – it’s better to save up for the 16GB variant or to just purchase an RTX 3070 instead at $500 dollars.

Nvidia RTX 4000 GPU Release Dates

The Nvidia RTX 4090 will be available on 12 October 2022, being the first one to come out in the series.

The RTX 4080 will launch sometime in November, but we don’t have an exact date for these two cards yet.

So, you only have to wait between one to two months to get your hands on these cards. And fortunately, the scalping and mining issue is much less significant now – so you don’t have to worry about these things when it comes to buying the all-new RTX 4000 series GPUs.

That’s everything that you need to know about the latest Nvidia RTX 4000 series of graphics cards.

Every model, price, release date, and buying advice has been laid out and the only thing to do now is to decide if you’ll get your hands on one or not!
