The long-awaited Resident Evil 4 Remake is finally here, and it comes with many additions that the original game did not have.
One of the most important gameplay mechanics that are only present in Resident Evil 4 Remake is the knife parry, which is a great way to save ammo and health. Not only that, but it makes you look very cool too when you do it.
Though all you need is your knife and an enemy that is attacking you to parry – it’s not as simple as it looks. And if you’ve been trying to do it and can’t figure it out, you’re not alone!

How to Parry Attacks in Resident Evil 4 Remake
As with any other video game, the first thing that you need to know about parrying is that timing is extremely important.
The first thing that you need to know is that if you’re waving your knife the entire time – you cannot parry. And if you keep spamming the knife button, that won’t work either. Your knife has to be drawn at the right moment for parrying to work.
So, what you need to do is to press the knife button as soon as an enemy attack is about to hit you. You might not get it right the first couple of times, but you’ll know when it works and eventually get used to it.
These are the type of attacks that you can parry:
- Any attacks with a pitchfork, axe, and even some chainsaw attacks
- Flying axes (and other similar melee attacks)
- Some punches/lunges from weak enemies (grabs cannot be parried, however).
If you can’t land a parry by looking at enemy movement – there is one small alternative.
When an enemy can be parried before they’re about to attack, you can see your knife glow on the HUD at the bottom right corner of the screen. It’s not an exact window and you can still miss a parry, but it helps you understand the right timing if you pay attention to it.
And that’s how it’s done. If you practice a bit, you’ll successfully parry all attacks in the game and save your ammo and health.

Yes, parrying attacks damages your knife. If you parry too many times, your knife will eventually break. So, be mindful of using it until you’ve upgraded your knife a few times. Can you parry multiple times in a row in Resident Evil 4 Remake?
Yes, you can parry two enemies back-to-back in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Of course, your timing has to be perfect for this – but you can make it happen. All that you need to do is to parry it once, then wait until you’re attacked, and then parry again. It can be done within only a few seconds if you become an expert.
