It made a huge noise when it was released that year.

1. Dead Cells
Dead Cells is a roguelike video game inspired by Metroidvania-style games, developed and published by Motion Twin.
After a year in early access, Dead Cells was released for Linux, macOS, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on August 7, 2018. A mobile port for iOS was released on August 28, 2019, and an Android port was released on June 3, 2020.
Dead cells is a great game that can compete with hollow knight, really. With really nice background music, an immersive storyline, and awesome gameplay, you can be sure of a similar gaming experience with hollow knight.
It has mini levels to complete to further upgrade equipment and character so as to complete the final goal; “killing the boss” but keep in mind, it’s not simple and straightforward, 🙂
2. Hollow Knight Silk Song
Silk song is a good replacement for hollow knight as it takes a number of inspirations from it.
Also has improvements from the original game. Unfortunate as it seems, the game is yet to be released to the public, and we can only rely on the feedback from Nintendo game developers; so, this is like a teaser for you, lol.
3. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
Developed by ArtPlay and published by 505 games, Ritual of the night was released in2019. The game had its development led by the director of the famous Castlevania series.
With the characters modeled around the same Castlevania series, it has a dark-themed world, story and gameplay which might make it derail a little bit from hollow knight itself but really, you should check it out 🙂
4. Guacamelee
A Metroidvania action platforming game was released in April 2013 originally for the Playstation console before getting ported for Windows, macOS, and Linux in August 2013, Guacamelee.
With a seemingly whimsical experience, Guacamelee overshadows hollow knight with more color, comedy, and luchador comedy. The characters are said to be “larger than life”, well thought up, and designed all-rounder. It had the fans calling for a sequel after its original release.
5. Ori and the Blind Forest
A very popular game around the same level as hollow knight. It is relatively easier, compared to hollow knight, with easier puzzles to solve also, coins lying around to earn too. It has an expansive world to explore, with caves, forests lying fallow, waiting for you.
Ori is the guardian spirit of the forest whose goal is to make the forest a better place to live in. The main character’s goal is to gather items to help Ori while skipping hurdles and staying alive.
6. Sundered: “Eldritch Edition”
Developed and published by Thunder Lotus a Canadian Studio, Sundered is a metrodi vania game released in 2017 for major consoles. Sundered has a rogue-like element in its play.
It has likenesses to Hollow knight. It has mazes that make the game more interesting and intriguing.
7. Chasm
Chasm has a part of it as hollow and another as a different game, which has a perfectly blended side-scrolling platforming game.
Raiding dungeons, killing monsters and aliens is something to really watch out for in this awesome game.
8. Salt and Sanctuary
Salt and Sanctuary is a 2D action RPG game developed and published by Ska Studios.
It was released in 2016 in batches for major consoles. It has to do with swiping and dodging combats, breath-taking action moves similar to what you’d love in hollow knight.
A unique feature is that when you die, you get to circle back and explore your saved points.
9. Mercenary Kings
A very unique game on this list, but it’s worth being mentioned on the list of games similar to hollow knight.
Similar to Borderlands and mixed with demons and monsters.
10. Cuphead
You’ll enjoy this game, really it’s a side-scrolling, 2d game that has a bit of action similar to hollow knight. 🙂
